The Fox and the Crane

Once Upon a Time, the Animals were people, too. Being well-acquainted with the Fox, I endevour to tell his stories. There may be angels as well, and gods and demons and monsters, but at the heart of it all is a Fox, the very first Fox.

They had known one another for many years. Crow had a weakness for things that sparkled and Kyuubi was quite adept at acquiring such objects. They met at a bazaar in the Early Days, when ancient things were new and Gods were still at large in the world, and Crow still had her sight.

For you see, the pair of them were very old, though they didn’t look it. Legends say Kyuubi stole a pearl from the God of the Sun and gave it to Night to become the Moon, and the God of the Sun was so impressed with his craft that he did not punish him for the crime.

Crow stockpiled fallen stars in caves deep beneath the earth, only to lose them when the earth shook and split and buried them for humans to find lifetimes later.

But these are tales for another time.
